Default Sprocket help please

I am confused as heck when it comes to sprockets.

What do you get if you go smaller in front and larger in the rear. Or dont you ever change both at the same time. Can somebody tell me all the possible combos and what you get for performance be it low or top end. Thanks!

If you go smaller in the front, you will be geared lower, thus loose top speed. Going larger in the rear will also gear you lower like the front, however, going up 3 teeth in the rear is like going down 1 tooth in the front. So by going bigger in the rear, you can do it in smaller jumps. Then if you do it the other way around, bigger in the front or smaller in the rear, you will be geared higher, thus gaining more top speed, but lose bottom end.

Here's a chart that will show you what your gear ratios are with any combination of sprockets/gears. Hope this helps. . . .
