Rincon Purchase

maui -- Thanks very much for that information. With your kind indulgence could I ask two more questions, when you had the new jet made and dropped 5 steps, does that mean the new jet is 153 less 5, meaning 147. Last question, how did it run after the rejetting. Thanks again, and good riding.

MileHighRider-
Much like you, I was concerned about dropping a nice chunk of money on a ride that I had little information on. In the end, I picked one up a month ago and have put 400 miles on it and have loved it. Only problem I ran into was the wife making me ride the Rancher and she took the Riny. Needless to say, after running the Riny so much, ithe Rancher made me feel like I was strapped into a grocery cart and that she was towing me. So, this week I went and got another one and the Rancher is gonna find a new home.
No problems climbing, breaking etc. (i too was worried about this as we have lots of mountians out here in AZ.
I was able to get both my Rincons each for $6840 Plus Freight and Tax. $7500 out the door (no set up fees). I know there are several dealers here asking, and getting, MSRP plus tax, and whatever else they can tack on bringing the sale to $8200. insane.
I dont really care if they do make changes, I am good with what I have. Besides, I dont think Honda would make anything other than maybe some minor changes and anything significant would likely be available as a mod later anyway for less than buying the new one, selling the old one. Hopefully they will bring out adjustable shocks (oh please).
As far as accesories, there arent alot out there right now but I think I am going to be getting a nice skid plate soon. Seems I have some bad habits and nose out alot.
Best of luck.

147, sounds right, I can't remember now.
I'm still running the 147 jet if that tells you anything.
when I run higher elevation its real clean and responsive. You can also take a shim from under the needle if you want to see what a little less fuel will do...but thats not the same really.
going riding in a bit this afternoon with another guide. He just bought some alum foreman rims for the rear which gives a real wide stance.....hes also running some holeshots....freakin bozo at the bike shop put the 10" tires on the new front rims, figure wtf, give em a try......lol
we're gonna run from 4000' straight up to 6000', kinda a verticla drag race on one of the steepest mountains in the world. Might cross over to a couple of water falls and such later, maybe drop down to 3000' and go back up again. I'm really curious to see how his bike handles with the big off set on the rear.

Keihin jet sizes don't go by ones. In other words, going down from the stock size of 153, the next size down would be 150, then 148, 145, 143. To me 5 steps down from 153 would be 140. This sounds like an awful lot though. And, Path, you don't typically make or "have jets made". You buy them already calibrated. I checked Honda's high altitude specs for the Rincon and the only thing they say to do is adjust mixture screw (mainly effect idle). Also temperature effects jetting, the colder the richer. So if you really get it dialed in for a mountain on say, Maui, it could be quite different than the ideal setting for Montana's mountains where this time of year it might be VERY cold. Maui, just checked the temperature here and it's 1F, I'm tempted to jump a plane and go riding with you.

Thanks Dzzy, that is very good information to know. My Honda mechanic told me the very same thing. We set the idle up, then when I got above 7,000 ft. I took off the breather top and had oddles of power, but noticabely more noise. It sounded more like an truck with headers. I can live with that, when Muie mentioned the jet change, I thought maybe that could be done. Good riding.

damn I'm gonna have to go and look what jet I have now. I was certain it was excatly 5 steps down. I'm usually pretty sure of things like that. As far as making jets you can usually buy a blank and make one. Of course you need to have a flow bench so that you really get the right size. Its much more than just drilling a hole in a piece of brass. The length of the oriface, taper in, and out will also affect flow. In some cases you can drill a jet to a larger size and reduce flow.....
As far as what works here and what works where you are, its apples and oranges. Relitive humidity, corrected altitude, temp, all these things affect how you run.I've seen corrections based on barametric pressure make an altimeter read +2800' ele, when in fact we where at 11' above sea level.
80 degrees here today guys......
I snapped a few pictures yesterday of the off set rear rims on the other rincon. btw the holeshots are wicked [thumbs up in a big way]
