It all depends on how much money that you wanna spend. The 300 is probably a little more powerful and faster. Both jump the same. 250X is lighter, not by much. Honda reliability thats all.

I had this same problem.

I have come to the conclusion. Same machine only the 300EX has 20 more CCs and a startor.

They run the exact same speed! I seen a 92 250x and a 2000 300ex drag, they ran side by side the whole time!

They way i figure it, when i go looking, if i find a good 300ex for a good price i will buy it, a good 250x for a good price i will get it.

As to the post below. i noticed no Difference at all, They will both wheelie with the same amount of force!

They are the SAME 4-wheeler!

i think the reason they got rid of the 250x is that there was a demand for a bigger quad with more power etc. making the 300ex was easy for them to do. restroke it and there ya go 280cc's and a few other things too. and they probably put a bigger price tag on it too. (this is just my opinion i am not sure it is the truth)

when i was looking for one, my choices were between these two machines too. I found an almost perfect 250X, so I bought it. I would have bought a 300EX if I'd found one first...although I do love the kickstart on the 250.
Dont let anybody kid yuh, they are the same EXACT machine. if anybody suffers from cc-envy they can have it bored out to the next size piston, and Voila! a 282EX is born.

They didn't get rid of the 250X because they wanted a more powerfull quad, they just added an electric starter to make the quad more appealing to a wider range of riders. Thus the quad gained 15-20 lbs, so they stroked it a little to give it enought power to make up for the added weight over the 250X. Thus both machines are identical in speed and they are identical frames and suspension, same cyclinder bore, etc. Racers generally prefer the 250X due to less weight and the engine can be started with more compression than the electric starter on the 300EX can handle.

My advise, if you come accross a well maintained 250X for a good price, buy it, if you find a deal on a good 300EX, go for it. I've owned both (Only because my 250X was stolen and I found a nice 300EX) and I can say they are identical. Yes I liked the torque of the 300EX, but I could also feel the extra weight at first, but either machine will perform the same.

I have come to the same conclusion listed above. I'm currently looking for a good used quad and I will buy either a 250x or 300ex and can't seem to find any great differences in performance. A 250x with a few mods will spank a stock 300ex. I have seen a 250x run with 300ex's and try to stay with a 400ex. The 400 won (obviously), but the 300's and 250 were not that far away.
