Slinger, don't know about the speed but the toughness is there for the machine. I have one for work that runs around in a cotton field in 100 degree heat and never a problem, the temp light has never even come on. Also this machine has good torque and pulling power as well. I would have bought one for personal use but I needed something a little larger so I got the Foreman 450. The Rancher gets a thumbs up from me.

Top speed on my Rancher is 52 mph. I would not worry about the ES. I have it and think it is great! I love it when I am riding in the mud, or a deep water hole. Everyone else is getting their legs soaked, and I am riding w/ my feet up on the racks and still able to shift! I have not had a single problem w/ the ES in over 2 years of riding and about 1200 total miles. Great quad and it will run circles around a Bayou 300!

The ES is a nice feature, but if you have any concern about reliably you can't go wrong with the S. I'd also reccommend a 4x4. The first good mud hole or steep hill climb you'll really appreciate the added pull from the front wheels.
