True DaBeach, I've had my R for 3 years now and have yet to open it up because the compression is still high. I'm going to do it soon though, just to be safe.
As long as you keep an eye on the jetting they are extremely reliable. On the all the fourstrokes I have owned I was always adjusting the valves, not to mention the 5 or so times I tapped a valve.

Like I said I had a 86 R before so I know all about the maintnence, tuning, ect.... I was just wonderind that since the ex frame was made of round tube instead of the square tube on the R would it be a more durable machine, less prone to cracking ect....as for the suspension I would throw a set of works on the ex also like the R has. I know the R has alot of potential if you throw gobs of money at it, but Im on a VERY STRICT, TIGHT budget with 4 kids...So the 4k is about all I have to spend. The R is basically brand new, every nut, bolt, bushing, everything is new factory honda. Thats why I was willing to pay the 4k for it, My last R i bought for 2800 but after fixing and replacing everything it wound up costing over 6k. starting to think about going to pick up the R....Thanks for your input....

if your on a strict diet id still go with the R. It sounds like a decently built machine. If you feel you still need more power, its almost always going to be cheaper to upgrade a 2-stroke. again for the simple fact that there is less to upgrade. Yanno, no cams, valves, head work, sh*t like that.

250R!! In a couple years they will be harder to find. It will be in greater demand when people don't have brand new Banshee's, Blaster's,Polaris,etc...to buy. But they want a 2-stroke. You could probably get your money out of the R later. If your going to be racing, you are going to be hard on the motor. Would you rather rebuild the R or the EX?
