you don't need to have an airbox, you can acually hook your filter directly to the carb but woudn't recommend it if your gonna be gettin wet. Get the k&n filter and outer wear and get a 165 jet or so that way you don't have t get a new airbox( dg is 170 ctracing is 250)

 

Your friend can get a 400ex air box from East Coast ATV for $15

 

I just broke mine. You could just get the box only like I did from the dealer. $12. that is right $12.
