400ex makes a ticking noise
#1
I have a 99 440ex and it makes a ticking noise when iam in the gas hard but not till after iam passed half throttle. It sounds like its coming from the front of the engine. I heard it could be the oil pump going out. Any suggestion would be nice thanks

Adjust your valves.... If the ticking gets louder as your RPM's go up. Another possibility would be the cam chain, but I wouldn't think it would be that sloppy in there. You'd hear that mostly at idle. One way to check would be to unsrew the bolts on the cam chain tensioner. If it pops out about a quarter inch, it's okay, if not, you'll want to get it checked out.

i just had the valves adjusted so they should be fine and if it was the valves it would tick all the time not just past half throddle. so it think that the cam chaim might be sloppy iam waiting the the manual to check that out thanks for the responses

before my valve adjustment.........
it would tick a little when laying in the gas.........
so if i hear valve noise at a low idle then the cam chain is loose????????????
my 400ex has always idled super low since it was new,
now at low idle it starts ticking,
but if i hit the gas it stops.........
i idled it up a little (very little) and it doesn't do it anymore........
whats up with that??
