Hey in the near future im planning to buy a rancher and wondering if it is worth it putting a
winch on it? How good is this new 4wd system and how does it compete to the 450's 4wd system?

IF you are going to be riding where it is very muddy and none of your friends has a winch or you ride alone, it would be the best thing you could do. Putting bigger tires is preferred by some over a winch, but no matter what you have it can and will get stuck IF you ride in very muddy conditions.
The only thing I can tell you about the 4WD "system" is the Rancher has the new AP diff and the Foreman does not. But, others with personal experiences can help you, I am sure.

If you've the mean's, without strapping oneself, I'd say do it. it will make a plow easier, and you never know when you'll need it to pull yourself or others out.

I have a Rancher with a Warn A2000 winch. When I bought it, like everyone else I was watching my money. I didn't know whether I needed a winch or not. The first few times I rode it, I didn't need it. Then we found a huge mudhole to play in. I pulled three buddies out (they didn't have Ranchers)with the winch. I went through the mudhole twice, on the Rancher and was feeling pretty confident in the Rancher's muddin abilities. Then I stuck it too. The Rancher's 4 wheel drive system is great. It will go in mud that many others will not. But, you will stick it too. If your riding buddies don't have a winch and you can afford one, buy it. If you ride in mud, you'll need it.

yeah, i think we all thought at one point or another that our quad was invincible.

i think we've all been proven wrong at one point or another.

mine was 3rd day of ownership, driving through a cove in Lake Hartwell... NO LONGER INVINCIBLE!!!.. HA.

trust me, you'll be glad you got one, also you can have more fun knowing you have the winch up your selve... trust me... ha.

I too do not own a winch. Every one I ride with tells me its only a matter of time before I get stuck & wished that I owned one.

I plan on getting one in the next month.

I also don't have a winch but man i sure wish i had one going through the deep mud...i could have pulled myself out with a winch in the mud but i didn't have one so i had to use a pick-up to pull me out.
I have heard so many good things about winches, but i think it all depends what terrain you drive on, sounds like you'll need one.
