My buddy rides his 300 four trax in water up to the top of his engine. He runs up and down creeks. I won't follow him on my Rancher cause I just don't think this can be good for it. Just how water tight are these units? Also, does anyone know if the 1500mSuperwinch is water submergable? Larry

LarryK,
These units are very good at sealing things off to keep water out of them up to a point. Your Rancher is a particularly good one. Find your air intake and see how high it is. As long as you dont go any deeper than that, youll be fine. Another note though, if you do some water crossings and such, when you get done be sure to check your front and rear end differentials for water contamination.Remember, white is bad! Also keep an eye on the brakes and make sure they arent full. Riding in water can be fun, and with a little common sense it can be safe for you and your quad.

i ride mine in that much water every time i go ridding. i have been over the handle bars in water not good. try to stay below the handle bars or where you air intake is. about the winch you would figure it would be if it is not then why would they make it for a 4 wheeler if your not planning on using it when you are stuck in mud or water. then i would just be a waste of money to buy one.

I had a friend that said his 185 3-wheeler would float. We went to the canal to prove it. He would have made it if he wouldn't have turned. Anyway after he and it went upside down we dragged it out and put it up on end and pulled about 40 times before it spit out enough water to start. Also, try to keep the erosion down if its a fresh stream, it really pisses off the enviro's and our government.

i've got a 300 4x4 with that winch too... and i take it in deep water when it's warm...

BUT ON THE WINCH,,, i sealed mine with silicone just to be sure.. i had a friend that had one, and he said the first one he had got all tough and rusted because water got it, so he recommended sealing it, which is what he did with he second one too. so, i'm not one that has to learn from my own mistakes, i prefer to learn from others' mistakes...

also, funny story, i was in a river that had the engine under water, and i backed out on land, and decided i was going to hit it about 30 mph just for the fun of it... BAD IDEA. turns out, the front tires are like rudders that fast, and the water pushed them to one side,(i couldn't hold them straight, and i'm a big guy)... and it flipped in water about rack deep, and "DOVE" off.. literally. swam/walked back.. flipped it back up, restarted the engine cause it had died,,, STARTED RIGHT BACK UP.. and off i went... ha.. go figure.. tough machine..

No problems, yet, been through multiple stream crossings & plenty of mud holes.
