I've never had a problem with a rear axel on my Forman 450, and I have 27" Blackwaters and a warn 424 kit.

We work on a lot of 450's. I have seen a couple break quite cleanly in the area where the hub spline is machined on the end of the axle. Both have been on machines that I know are used severely, I suspect jumping possible? But then, if they are under warranty of course they say they were just riding along, LOL. Also I know for a fact that 450 rear axles were on backorder from Honda for quite some time last winter. Guess I am curious to know, what was your friend doing when this happened?

abuse by jumping or pulling to much of a load with no wheel spin. Normal riding will not break. 99% of the time. (quote fro my Honda service manger)
