i was told that in order to get something chromed, the parts are sent to Mexico to be done because it is illegal in the states. the reason i was givin for this was because of some sort of acid bath that is done before the actual chroming proccess is done. can anyone confirm or deny this? any insight would be appreciated. thanks.

You could even buy a kit and chrome (electroplate) parts at home. I have one.

 

how much does a kit like that go for?

 

about $100, the hard part is gettng the current right. Any adjustable current source costs about $200, if you know enough about electricity you could use a battery charger and bunch of light bulbs to adjust the power.

Go here to look at the different kits, I got the copy chrome which is a simplified kit. The triple chrome is the best kit but cost about $500.
