My bro has a 2002 Scrambler 500 that is completely stock and that thing will absolutely RIP! I never thought something that weighs that much with an automatic transmission can go so fast! Top speed is supposed to be around 71 or 72. If you're thinking about buying one, go with the Scrambler. It's much more stable and easily as fast. It also has reverse, while the Honda doesn't. Nothing against the Honda, I'm buying a 300ex soon myself, but the Scrambler has it beat in almost every area.

Hahahaha trailbreaker u do not know what ur talking about. Polaris 500's suck. The 400 would come closer to the 400ex than the 500, cause its a 2 stroke. Have u ever rode or ever seen ne one ride a 400ex? Its much lighter handles better and just plain rides better than ne scrambler out there.
The 400ex will smoke it....depending on whos driving it that is

Im not being Bias' about polaris. and im not trying to bash honda iether, just stop believing what the magazine's tell you, and see it for yourself that the polaris sport quads have a Heck of Alot more Power than all you Honda, Yamaha, Zuki and Kawi fans think they do, and Polaris deserves alot more Credit than they get from you guys, and your beloved (WRONG) magazines.

Before I bought my 400EX two years ago,I almost got a Scrambler 500.
In retrospect,I am very glad I did not.
After getting used to my EX,hopping back on my friend's Scrambler was just not a pleasant feeling.
The things scoot pretty darn well, and I would say it would keep up with my EX easily enough, but the feeling the thing had was just wrong.
it was too much work(compared to the EX) to make the thing handle,IMO.
Just felt way too tall and awkward.
I LIKED the fact that it was an auto,it made life easier in that dept.,but everything else just turned me off after getting good on the EX.
Guess I just got spoiled by the handling and light weight of the Honda.

After owning a Sport 400 for years I eventually graduated to the 400EX. Now the Sport I had was MUCH faster than the 400EX would ever be. Going from the Sport to the 400EX is like going from a C-5A Galaxy transport plane to a F-16 fighter. Much more manuverable. I spent about $10,000 on the Sport and it still handled like a tank, the 400EX handles fine as it is.
One thing you should consider, though. Hop ups for the 400EXs are MUCH cheaper than hop ups for the Scrambler 500. There are many ways that you can get more power from the 400EX, but only one way to get more power from the 500 Scrambler (FST 600/628 kits).

Whoever comes on here and says straight up that a quad "sucks" does not know a thing about what they are talking about. Saying a quad sucks is (obviously) an opinion, but there are better ways of saying it.
Now, back to what this was originally all about...neither of these quads are better than the other. It just all depends on where you are riding and how you ride. The 400ex was obviously designed with the sport rider in mind, while the Scramblers are meant for someone looking for a sporty 4x4 or a somewhat sporty trail machine. In a race, I would say the 400ex would win only because of power to weight ratio.
If you plan on just riding trails, hitting mudpits, and some faster paced trail riding, the Scrambler is good for you. If you plan on modifying, racing, or hitting jumps I would definately go with the 400ex.
If you are someone trying to decide which one to get, test ride both. Don't listen to what other people tell you to get, find out for yourself! I myself am going to be getting a 400ex because I want something more sporty and faster/lighter.
