Default need help rebuilding 250r

i blew a hole in the piston of my R last weekend, now i got to rebuild it. the problem is i got pieces of the piston down in the crank and i`m having problems getting it all out. i had the same problem with my friends blaster that i rebuilt for him. some one told me they had used diesal before to break it up, so i tried that and it worked. i`m just not having the same luck with mine. any advice would be helpful.

Hold it upside down and shake it.

keep flushing it with fuel. If you see a peice wedged between the crank and case you can try and fish it out with some feeler gauge wires

Also, get a flashlight and look down in the holes on the side of the case, sometimes little pieces get in there and can wreck havoc with your bearings.
Lots of flushing and use clean rags that don't leave lint.
Lots of patience! Take your time and really do it well.
If you're blowing holes in the tops of pistons, you most likely need to increase main jet size.

Get a couple spray cans of brake cleaner and have someone hold it upside down and spray the crap out of the inside, that will clean it all out. This procedure works when trying to remove all the sand from the same area.

Yeah split the cases. If the motor is out of the quad you can have it apart, and back together in a few hours. Get a complete gasket set, when was the last time you rebuilt the crank? It may be a good time to do that as well. Also to check the internal bearings!

The only real problem is getting the flywheel off it uses a puller. If not one of the local shops could do it for you, they shouldn't charge to much to pull off the flywheel.

If you do all of this now, it will give you a lot more trouble free riding, and you wont be doing it again. At least for a long time.

Good luck.
