foreman 450s Vs. 400ex
i do alot of trail riding and i am in the market of a new atv ive been looking at both the foreman 450s and 400ex i know that the foreman would do better in mud but the 400ex would do better on speed and performance i would mostly be doing recreational riding not much work but i like the 2x4 / 4x4 option on the foreman if anyone else could point out some things to me i would appreciate it thanx

I HAVE 2) 350 RANCHERS- MINE, MY SONS AND SONS BUDDIES 400EX IN GARAGE. MY SON AND HIS WOMAN WANTED TO RIDE LAST WEEK SO I WENT ALONG, MY SON ON HIS, HIS WOMAN ON MINE ,WELL GUESS WHAT I HAD . IT WILL DO AWESOME WHEELIES BUT OTHER THAN THAT IT IS A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. TAKE THE MONEY YOU WOULD SPEND ON AN EX AND HAND IT OUT ON THE STREET AT LEAST SOMEONE WILL GET USE OUT OF IT...

Well that was the most "educated" reply I've ever heard. It all depends on how you ride, and where you want to ride the quad you plan on buying. For slow trail rides and unexperienced riders, I can see where you may have a problem on a 400ex, but if you have a few years of trail riding under your belt (or dune riding), you can take a 400EX (or any other 2 wheel drive sport quad) anywhere you can take a rancher or foreman. If you want to go fast, have responsive handling, jump, and be more manueverable, I'd go with the 400ex. If you are going to putt around on the trails, hit deep mud holes, do deep water or snow riding, go with a 4x4. Sometimes the most limiting part of an atv is the person behind the handlebars.

Chad400ex, I couldn't agree more.
4rider,
Now here is where you need to make the choice. Do you want to go mudding, haul stuff, work, and/or do more technical rocky trails? If so, go with the utility quad. If you want to pull wheelies, hit jumps, race, and/or do more sporty trail riding, then go with a sport quad. I don't know how else to put it. It's a hard choice between sport and utility, believe me, I know. That is why I got the Scrambler. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sell you on the Scrambler, but if it comes down to wanting a little bit of both styles of riding, the Scramblers are a good choice to keep in mind (I know I'll probly get someone saying Scramblers are junk now). Anyways, sorry for drifting off a little bit. This is a choice you have to make yourself. Tell us, more specifically, what kind of riding you do now, or what you would like to. What are the trails like you ride on now? Stuff like that could help us help you make your decision.
**** I guess I was typing mine as you were yours. Good luck with your choice.

CHAD, TALK ABOUT EDUCATED, ANY TIME YOU WANT TO GO WHERE A 4X4 GO'S YOU LET ME KNOW .THAT IS A STUPID STATEMENT,I AM NOT A KID AND HAVE OWNED WHEELERS SINCE 1984 SO I TO HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE. I WORK WITH A MAN MY AGE (44) WHO HAS ABOUT AS MUCH WHEELER EXPERIENCE AS I DO AND HE MADE THE SAME STATEMENT AS YOU LAST FALL SO HE BROUGHT HIS RAPTOR OUT TO RIDE WITH MY SON AND I . WELL SHOULD I FINISH OR CAN YOU FIGURE THE MORAL TO MY STORY, HE WATCHES HIS WORDS NOW AND IT STILL IS A SORE SUBJECT. AND ALSO 4RIDER MUST FEEL SOME NEED FOR 4X4 OR IT WOULD NOT BE IN HIS CHOICES,BOTH OF YOU SHOULD CONSIDER THAT.

My EX will go as far as your "4X4" like he said its all about whos behind the bars!!!! I ride with 4X4 all the time no problem. They use a winch before I do, when i get stuck I just pick it up and move it over. One of the quads I do goin ridin with is my buddys scrambler 500 the bags the sh*t out of it and it keeps on runnin. Its pretty fast and fun to ride to and if you want that 4X4 just hit da BUTTON!!

HONRAN01,
I didn't mean to insult you or your intelligence, or put you or your opinion down. Sorry if you misunderstood me. I just feel that if one is a good rider, one can go almost anywhere a 4x4 can go on a two wheel drive. That's just my thought/opinion. One of the places one cannot go on a two wheel drive is mud pits, of course. That is why I am having a hard time deciding if I want to sell the Scrambler or not.
Just FYI, typing in all caps implies that you are yelling and/or you are angry. I don't know if you are or not , just making sure you know.

thanx alot offrdr your words help alot. the way i want to ride is a little muddin and some tech rocky stuff but i want to ride sporty trail rides all the time cuz thats mostly what i do with my foreman 400 now i dont ever work with it its pretty much just recreation its made to be a workhorse but i use it like a sport quad except for jumpin and racing i think im gunna go with the 400ex but im still debating on it. i think i could handle the rocky stuff that i would do with it and since i dont really do any heavy muddin i think it would be ok but i will still debate on it thanx alot
