Default 400ex cooling solutions??

Most people hate the 400ex's lack of liquid-cooling compared to other quads like the Z400, Predator and DS.

Does anybody know of products or solutions to keeping the 400ex engine realll cool??
If I was to get one, I'd hate to loose power over heat.

Thanks

You can do alot of things to make them run cooler. I put on some of the PRM aluminum air scoops which direct more air towards your motor (more air = more cooling). You can also run one of the bigger oil tanks, or a bigger oil cooler. These things will keep your oil cooler which will give the oil a longer life, and keep your engine quite a bit cooler.

I can actaully "feel" the increase in air flow from my air scoops.

Try Amsoil 10w40 motorcycle oil it will drop your temp. around 25 deg and your quad will shifter better than it ever has.

I have a 350x motor put inot a 250x frame. . .the 350 motor has a small oil cooler tha comes with it but I went to a auto parts store and bought a bigger oil cooler for a truck. . .built a frame for it out of small aluminum angle iron forma home imp. store. . .built it all. . .made brackets for it out of aluminum. . got some braided brake lines and ran the new oil cooler that is now about 4 times bigger than the one it had on it. . it sound like a lot of owrk maybe . . but it was really simple. .just took my time with it. . it looks pretty damn cool actually. . .all aluminum. . .and of course had to polish it all up when i was done. . the bigger the cooler. . .the cooler your oil stays. . if you want. . i could take a pic of it so you understand what i'm trying to explain. . .good luck

I just want to add a question to this thread. Has anyone ever had any problems with the 400EX over
heating or a noticeable drop in power because of over heating? If so, what outside temp. was this in?
I'm just wondering if liquid cooling would be necessary on the 400EX or just added weight?

Only when you put a 440 bore kit in. A 440 strok kit will not.

You can buy the aluminum air scoops. . .they really aren't too bad price wise either. . .. they look good too. . .OMF and PRM I think both make them. . they are only about $40-60

I bought the air scoops from the Moto Man ad out of Dirtwheels. Not only do they look really cool, they really throw the air over the motor. I recently had a 416 kit installed, so I added a high capacity oil reservoir. I'm also thinking about adding the FST cooler, as well.
