WHICH ONE IS FASTER AND OVERALL BEST?MY DAD IS GOING TO BUY ONE OR THE OTHER.HE LIKES THEIR SIZE BUT DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEM.

 

The 300 has slightly more speed do to the larger cc motor. But the recon is a better handlingmachine. the 300 has a ton of modification options where the recon has few. The 300 is a better worker. and in the mud they're about equal. if you get the recon you might wanna get some new front tires for mud riding or in slick conditions since the stockers have no traction at all. I'm pleased with my recon. and my freind has a 300, they're both great machines. if your into agressive riding go for the recon. Hope I helped.

 

Go with the Recon and save yourself some money.The recon can do anything the 300 can do and is a little sportier of a ride.Not to mention it looks better.I was very impressed with the recon the only bad thing i found about it was the vibration.It vibrates a little more than the 300.Oh yeah, the recon weighs about 110 lbs less then the 300 and theres alot of benefit to that alone.

and the recon goes 60mp trust me its true but if your looking fore more of a utility
atv you want to go with the 300 but this is
the last year to get one because honda is going to get reed of them because the rancher's. P.S.if you get the recon it cost

If you are in to the 2 wheel drive definitely save some money and buy the Recon. But the 4 wheel drive 300 is fun to ride also. The 4 wheel drive can take you through a lot more mud and snow also. Bye!

 

Does anyone have the actual radar speed of the Recon? I find it quite difficult to believe that the Recon goes 60 mph and has a utility 250cc motor when the 300ex with it's sport oriented 300cc motor will only go 45 on a radar. I see these statements made all the time how a 400ex goes 90 mph, when radar states it hits 67 mph. Let's get beyond exaggeration and try and state facts. My Rancher states 50 mph on the speedo, I would love to know what it is on radar. Fact is, the trx300 is bulletproof. The Recon is based from the same design firm. It is more that likely bulletproof. Honda does one thing extremely well, they over-engineer. This insures an excellent product. Most of the reviews say the Recon is the best priced trail/utility use ATV. Buy a Recon and save the money for gas.....

That should pay for about 2 years worth.

 

There's 2 things I know for sure in this thread: a Recon does not go 60, and a 300EX goes faster than 45!

 

Local dealer told me over the weekend that Honda is lowering the suggested retail price of the recon to $3500. A great buy in my opinion. I've ridin both and the recon is definitely more sporty. But the 300 is a great worker if you want that. I'm sure you would be very happy with either one.

 

I have a '97 300 Fourtrax, '97Recon and a '00 Rancher. I like the Recon for the handling. It if more fun to whip around all over the place. The 300 Fourtrax will go in places that take more skill with the Recon. You can just walk through places with the 300 that you have to fly through with the Recon. I have raced the 2 against each other and the 300 leaves the recon behind slowly. The 300 is also a little harder to steer but you get used to that. For mud and steep hill climbs I would go with the 300 Fourtrax. For the thrill I would go with the Recon.
