First of all, I have a grand total of about 4 hours on ATV's (so my experience is limited), and I'm not a gearhead, so please keep this simple.

Yesterday my dad offered to sell me a 1997 4x4 Honda 300cc ATV with tire chains (price yet to be determined, but probably around $3000). I don't know which model it is, but it's not sporty looking; it looks like a Fourtrax I saw on the web. He bought it from a farmer about 2 years ago and it appears to be in normal-for-it's-age condition.

I am building on an almost-flat 2-acre hay field and will use the machine to mow the grass (around lots of seedlings), plow snow in the winter, and do light-to-moderate garden/yard hauling. There is a rather extensive trail system about 4 miles away that I will probably use occassionally, but only at slow-to-moderate speeds; no jumping, racing, mudding, etc.

Considering that I will have to come up with additional money to buy the blade and mower (assuming they are even available), does this machine appear to be able to meet my needs, or should I look more at a larger model or a yard tractor?

 

It should work fine but people are not getting 3K for a 97 model around here.

 

Sounds like a good quad, but way too much. Offer him 2200 and tell him you'll be his favorite child for a year...

 

$3000 is too high. It will do the job fine and if you think you need it worth 3000 bucks then go for it otherwise i would talk him down or look around. There are tons of 4 wheelers out there for sale. Go to www.traderonline.com and take a look
