Race: 250 Ozark vs 250 Recon
My Recon beat up my Ozark, that's why I had to sell the Ozark. They couldn't stay together in the same garage. Even the Bayou 220 serving as an intermediary couldn't mend all the bad vibes. Now I hear the Ozark was stolen from its new owners. When I told the Recon, it laughed out loud! The Bayou was miffed at the Hondas reaction. My Z400 didn't care, it just wants more modifications. Some quads are sooooo vain! I hope the Recon doesn't pick on the Z-250 when it comes around, the Bayou won't be around to intervene. Maybe the Z-400 will lay the smack down then! If not,I may be forced to buy a 250ex even though like the Recon it is slower than its Suzuki rival. Dam, these ATVs are such primadonas. I don't know how I put up with them!

bobcat why do you say that the Ozark got beat up by the Recon when you said this in another forum.
The ozark is a better quad than the Recon. Not much but just a little in almost all areas. I never thought I would find a better 250 trail quad than the Recon but Suzuki pulled it off! The ozark is faster,looks sportier,has easier reverse, better brakes, adjustable shift lever, a cool dry storage box,brake lamp, start in gear feature. I sound like a Suzuki ad. They handle very similar, balanced out nearly even. I own both plus a Bayou 220 I and have no bias against any of the big 4 Japanese bike makers. I think they all make great quads but I lean towards Honda. I was very surprised when the ozark outdid the Recon. It was obvious to me that Suzuki engineers knew the Recon very well during ozark r&d. The differences are not big and I fully expect Honda to answer back when sales of the Recon dip. I won't get rid of my Recon as I need 3 trail quads for my family to ride, and the Recon is still my favorite, but the facts is what they is. Now if Kawasaki will update the Bayou 250 and Yamaha will put the Beartracker on a diet & update too, the fun in the 250 class will really begin!

Ozarkrider03, Suzuki copied the Recon idea to make the Ozark. Just like they copied the 400EX and Raptor idea's to make the 400Z. Then they improved a couple things and kept it at the exact same price as the Recon. Also the 400Z is the same price as the 400EX. Now they are copying the 250EX idea from the Recon by making the Z250 from the Ozark. Why would Suzuki copy ideas from something that isn't a good product? You seem to be looking for what's the "best". But there really isn't a "best" in all areas. When I bought my Recon brand new in 2001 it was the one beating (in the mags) the other quads probably since 1997 when it first came out. The Recon has developed quite a following because it really is a good quad. The Ozark still needs to prove itself because it's still a newer model. Some people will just prefer the Recon over the Ozark and others will prefer the Ozark over the Recon. You could talk about disc brakes compared to drum and some people will like each set up. You could compare the motor setups and people will favor each. You could compare the drive shafts, tires, seats, racks, storage compartments of each and people will have pro's and con's about each item.
