300EX Jetting issues????
#1
I just bought a 96 300EX with a fresh motor and DG silencer, stock headpipe, uni filter. I live in South Western West Virginia. I'm not sure the altitude here but I'm guessing way under 5,000 ft. Most hills like 2000-3000ft and I'm guessing. My bike has a few issues and I believe its in the jetting. It runs good has strong bottom end power even in 5th. When I let off the fuel and coast I't starts popping and backfiring until I push the throttle a little. What jetting and air screw adjustments should I start with. Main Jet, Pilot jet, Needle clip position, and air/fuel mix screw. Give me some tips to get it tuned it just right until I can get a full white bros. pro meg e-series system.
Thanks

First off, make sure the jets you have are absolutely clean, that thing is old enough to have crap in the carb. Your popping symptom indicates lean. You can find out by adding a slight amount of choke to see if it helps. Try turning out your air/fuel screw half to one turn. Maybe raise the jet needle slightly. If it misses or is flat out wider opening speeds, you could work with the main jet. Do one thing at a time. And remember, it's possible to be lean in one circuit and rich in another.

I'm just gonna purchase a new K&N Jet Kit and get it right but I need your help with choosing and dialing in.......so here goes....list for me the jet size, needle clip position and turns on the air/fuel mix screw while using a uni filter and a DG RCM reverse megaphone silencer and stock head pipe with elevation from sea level to say up to 3,000 or so feet???????
