Honda 350 Trouble
#1
Hello, can anyone shed some light on the following problem? I have a Honda 350 and the neutral light will not come on anymore, therefore not letting the engine to start. I tried by-passing it manually by connecting direct power directly to the light to turn it on, but still the starter will not engage. The starter will however engage if you cross it directly at the solinoid. But still it won't run? Is there a sencor in the engine itself that I may have to replace? Any ideas?

There is always a connection to power on the lead to the neutral light, it won't come on unless the engine neutral switch grounds it. You didn't say how old your 350 is, or if it's manual or electric shift. Honda uses a green\red wire for neutral switches. You will probably find the wire unplugged at the neutral switch on the engine. Note, even if your neutral bulb fails, you will still have electric start as long as the neutral switch wire is intact.

Its a 2001 model 4x4. The wire I think your talking about is the one that goes directly into the block correct? If so does that mean I need to tear down the engine to get at it or is there some way of bypassing that system completely?

No don't tear anything down. You need to get a manual and troubleshoot your gear postion\neutral switch. If it tests bad, it could be bad, but more likely the shift drum slotted end that operates it broke. I have seen this happen and made the repair a few times. It requires getting into the internal tranny (engine deep) and replacing it with an 02 model drum. You also have to remove the case bearing as the 02 drum doesn't use it (sounds weird but it's true). If you are on good terms with the local Honda dealer, I would let them troubleshoot it. If they call Honda or their rep, I'll bet they would "goodwill" the repair to you (read freebie) If they don't, CALL Honda customer service and plead your case. I have seen that repair paid for by Honda as recently as November here in the states. But you really need to check and make sure that it isn't just a wire that came unplugged, or something simple like that.
