My wife wants to buy a new Rancher but can't decide between the 2 or 4 wheel drive. She wants the 4 wheel drive but is afraid it won't handle well in tight trail situations. We do a lot of woods riding too.How does your Rancher handle in similar situations and do they have a tight turning radius?

10.8 feet turning radius on the 4x4 ES. Go to Hondamotorcycles.com and look under press releases and search for 2000 models, the second choice has pics and specs.

i have a rancher 4x4 and it handle GREAT in tight situation. the only 4x4 quad that handle better is the wolverine, but it's more sport oriented. plus the rancher has a better 4x system. if ya do anykinda hill climbing or mudding at all get the 4x4 or a good tow rope

I do mostly wooded trail riding with my Rancher 4x4. The turning radius on ATV's I found to be limited. You do need a relative large clearing to turn around. Unless you have a 2x4 and power slide it around And with the ES model, "K" turns are quick and easy.

I was concerned about difficulty steering the 4x4 model, but let me tell you that Honda's done a great job with the differential. There is no torque pull.

My opinion is get the 4x4. I don't think you will regret it.

The new front differential makes the difference on the 4x4. The 4x4 doesn't have heavy stearing. You won't regret either choice.

The Rancher ES of mine handles great in tight trails, this is about the only riding I do in the Cascade Mountains in Washington. There is snow, mud ,and sand. It steers almost as well as my son's 2000 Recon 250. The only thing that makes it not quite as fun is the abillity to kick the rear end around. The 4wd Rancher goes anywhere it is pointed. The Rancher 2wd would be a good choice. My wife loves to ride mine so much I have to leave her at home sometimes , just so I get some riding time.Hope this helps you out.

For most riding situations the 4x2 should be the best choice. i have had a rancher es 4x2 since november and have not regretted getting a 4x4 in the least. the 4x2 is sportier and more peppy due to not having to pull four wheels also with the taller suspension it is harder to stick in mud. good luck on your choice!
