laws about street riding
#1
i live in lexington, ky. and just bought a new rancher. i have a place to ride in the country but have heard several rumors about the laws being changed here where you'll be able to ride your atv on the streets. does anyone have any knowledge of this or is it just another rumor? thanks.

Must be nice, Oregon just passed a law so when you go to licence a bike/quad they look up the VIN and if it wansnt made for the street by the factory they wont licence it..I am outta luck with converting my 91'XR250R to a dual sport

house bill 231 will be effective in the state of ky on july 1 2000. it states if you have two tail lights and a headlight on you can ride on any two lane road in the state "if" you are engaged in farm ro agricultural related activities, construction, road maint or snow removal. you can only ride during daylight hours and you do not have to wear headgear. also if you are not involved in these activities you can legally go up to 2 tenths of a mile to cross the road to get from one area to another. so if you were riding down the road and you see a cop just pull off quiclky and say you were trying to get across the road.
i have been in contact with the sec of trans in frankfort and i have it in writing that this bill will modify trans cabinet policy on atv's. a final decision on license for road use will be made at the county clerks convention in June 2000.
you can call the trans cabinst office and they will fax you the bill that just passed.
