300EX's are okay but the older 250X's were faster and lighter! Since you alreay own it it doesn't matter but if you were to do it over I would have bought an older, clean 250X and saved some coin while gaining in performance.

 

it handles great, but does not have lots of power. Stock has a top speed of around 55mph

 

there is no way the old 250 ex. is faster then the 300 ex's. my friend has an older 250 ex. and his moms 300 will outrun the 250.

 

He didn't say a 250ex, he's talking about the old 250x that is without the e. They were different quads and they were quite fast for how small they were. I think they were the equivilant of a four stroke 250r. My cousin has a plain x and it will do about 60 miles an hour but it is bored out and ported and polished. It is very very light I doubt if it weighs 360 pounds of course half of the plastic is gone the fenders are off and everything but that plastic doesn't weigh to much. I don't know what year they stopped making the 250x's but I think it was the late 80's or very early 90's. A lot of the old atv's had more top end power than todays quads. I still don't know if a 250x is faster than a 300ex or not it would probably be close if they are both stock.

thats what i meant, i meant 250x fourtrax. the 300 ex. still will pull away on the top end. I think that the new 300 ex's might have a rev. limitor so that might be a reason if could be faster on the top end but i am not totally sure. the 250x's are good quads tho, just adding an exhaust system to it will make it fly. I have a 1991 blaster that is trail ported, reeds, pipe,silencer, K&N filter,outerwears, timing advanced, 34mm carb, and some other mods and i was racing my friend on a stock 250x and i could pull him good by a couple bike lenghts going up hills and once he got his white brothers pipe it was pretty much over cuz it was about an equal race. the only thing that i dont like about the 250x's is that the reverse can be a b*tch to get into reverse and they put it in the wrong spot because its like above the left footpeg so its just a stupid spot for it....you guys ever tried the new suzuki s 400's? those are the best quads ever. I've ridden just about all the new sports quads and i think it is a better bike then the others. the only sport quads i havent rode are the 250 r's and the cannondales and the kawasaki 700. you would be amazed how good the suspension is on the 400. Mine is stock and i can often beat raptors.

The 250X and 300EX are exactly the same only the 250X is lighter than because it is kick start only. Also the 300EX is only a 280cc. The 250X is faster top end. Of course you have to find a 250X that is still in good shape. Not easy to do any more since the last year they were made was 91 or 92.

 

its a great sports bike. it is an older bike so honda has all th bugs worked out of everything. it is great all around things u can even mod it up to make it better [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Sorry about that yamahapunk I though you were mistaking the 250ex for the older 250x. I wasn't sure which was more powerful between the 250x and the 300ex. There both mid sized quads. I would probably go with a 300ex though because the 250x are getting pretty old but they are still reliable. Can you really beat a raptor with your stock z sometimes? I've raced a few and the closest I could get was about one and a half quad lengths behind him at the end of the race. I think he missed a shift also and thats why I was closer. I usually loose by at least two quads.
