250x rev limiter is 9500 rpm
300ex rev limiter is 8900 rpm
this gives the 250x a few mph over the 300ex
you can take the starter off a 300ex and put a 250x kicker on it to save wieght.They even used the same case cover and didnt put the kicker parts in it so there is no backup for the electric starter.
Dont ever try to put a 250x cdi box on a 300ex. They look the same but they work completely different.
Here is a trick for more power in reverse . Remove the conector from the right case cover on the bottom. Its under a black shield. It tells the cdi to limit engine speed to just above idle so you cant go very fast in reverse. Dam Lawyers.

I hear you on that one. I just purchased a new small John Deere Yard Tractor and the Government has deemed it so you can't mow it reverse. I mean gee weez I am backing up around items all the time when I am mowing. If the blades are rotating and you go for reverse the engine is killed. I found the switch and made a jumper so this is bypassed. So life is good again in reverse.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

If you ever got a 300ex stuck in some mud and needed some serious wheel spin to get out backwards the stock reverse is useless. I have also bent the reverse lever out about half an inch so I could use the heel of my left foot to pull the lever up making it much quicker process. Take that you lawyers.

Yup but my mod didnt cost 29 smackers to bend a piece of metal and doesnt catch your leg when coming off a jump.
Ive heard Honda had some trouble with the 300ex engine causing a thrust washer in the tranny to wear out from to much stress in reverse but Ive had my engine apart many many times and have seem zreo tranny wear even with the 406 kit.

 

yeah i totally agree with you, the stock reverse sucks! it seems like the rev. limitor for reverse is set at like 2000 rpms or something really low because whenever you use reverse you hit the rev limitor.

 

I loved my 300ex!!! a 300ex stock will run around 63mph and is a pretty powerful quad for a 300 cause i have seen one beat a warrior uphill at a race last spring.thx.
