i don't understand why so many people bash the 400ex. it gets called out dated and old. but when i look at it i see a great quad. people hold not having liquid cooling against it. but if it dosn't need to be liquid cooled then it's just extra weight. and when compaired to alot of the other new quads the 400ex handles better. so why is everyone so hard on it?

 

I know what you mean, it may not have the omph of the bigger quads but it wheelies, handles and jumps great.

 

yah i have a 400 and i luv it..i think the 400 is a great bike but i cant help but hold the fact that it got no reverse against it....but it isnt necessary fer liquid cooling so that doesnt bother me

I just came back from the last weekends of MX racing and guess what. The honda 250R's and the 440EX's took the races. There where Preditors there and also the KFX's . I realize that riders have lots to do with it but the 400 EX is still a very populart machine where I ride.

 

Simply because it is, but that doesn't mean it is a Bad Quad. The trouble is, that Honda is falling behind. The technology behind the 400EX is sound and proven. But in the fast paced world of performance ATV's, it is Old news. People (Right or Wrong) like to have the newest state of the art Quad. Even Honda realizes this. Their Sales numbers are falling due to all of the new Sport ATV's that have entered the game, that is why there is all of this talk about a 450EX.

The one thing that I have noticed is that some of the Biggest Critics of Honda and their failure to meet the demand for a new quad to keep up with the rest of the Sport market, is coming from Honda riders.

The 400EX will go down as one of the Best Sport ATV's ever. Honda is long overdue and needs to bring out something New, if for no other reason, at least to generate some interest from the quad buying public as well as from it's Loyal Followers.

 

with the money you save over buying other quads it is still a great deal. i guess the z is the same retail but raptors are what 6500? me and my friend bought quads about the same time. he bought a banshee and i got me a 400ex. he put toomy t-5 pipes boost bottle and now he has weisco pistons(same bore and compression) i have dmc exhaust je 10.8:1 416 piston and hotcams stage one. and i beat him in drag races on dirt. the point to this is that he has put about $1500 more into his bike than i have into mine. and mine is faster. maybe its just that i get the power to the ground more than him but i am still beating him. the 400 ex is a great quad. just put a little money into it.

 

just courious how much does it cost for a set up like that? and does it cause any kind of over heating? i'm trying to figure out what mods i will eventualy do to my ex, but i'm not really sure where i want to take it.

 

I love the EX, but hey folks, time marches on!! My daughter is now riding my old hand-me-down EX, and I am on a Z. Believe me, THE Z IS A BETTER BIKE IN EVERY WAY! But, I just hope that by this time next year, my daughter is riding my hand-me-down Z, and I am on an new 450EX or 650EX................YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DREAM!!

The manufacturers will just keep giving you the same old stuff (look at the Warrior!), if they can still make money doing it.

 

for parts $300 labor $150 but i know a guy that hooked me up on the labor part.
