How to check the level in the 250x / 300ex does the oil dip have to be screw all the way in to get the correct reading or can you stick it in without screwing it down to get the oil reading. It didnt say in the cylmer or honda manual

when it is all the way down i think
that is how i do it....park it on a level when you have finished using it....usually over night....and just check it by unscrewing it before you start riding.....that is i do and the bike hasn't stopped.....next time you do an oil change (and filter) measure how much oil you put in the manual will tell you how much the bike holds.....run it to fill the oil filter...leave it for 10 min then check the level....and see where comes up to on the dipstick, see what happens....just a though :-)
