Default Here comes the bear!

I like this time of year because all the bear come down to eat corn in the fields. Lots of tracks to see and bears to chase. I had a black bear run in front of my Foreman about a week ago and then it tried to disappear in a field of high hay. Which it did. It was probably around 250/300lb. The foot track averages between 3 & 4" wide. They gain alot of weight in the next couple months.
Anyone else live in or near bear country?

i have one living in the woods on my block. big mother!!! i saw him walking down the street the other night. he was about 600 lbs i would guess. not bothering anyone really, just likes to check out the garbage cans. i have my mossberg 500 loaded and ready in case he decides to come through my front door. i am not allowed to nail him until hunting season and even then i have to catch him in the woods away from any houses.

Yeah I do.I see two everyday without fail. One is a half mount I shot 2 years ago,The other is a rug that I took with my bow last year..Other than that I saw one several weeks ago that was probally 4-500 lbs. There has been a sighting of bears just about every week this year in city limits. They seem to be all over the place here.

Another bear ran out in front of me today. Actually walked down off a steep ledge and onto the path in front of me. It kept looking back up the ledge. It was just a baby at about 60 to 80lb. (If that) I was a little concerned that the mother might be following but never saw her. I clapped my hands a couple times and he walked to the edge of the path and sat on a log behind a tree. Then it just kinda peeked around at me. When I began to drive forward it ran down over another ledge on the other side of the path.

Do you think it's normal that it wasn't with it's mother at such a young age?

Coyotechaser,
No it isnt normal. It's mother may have been killed during the summer by a car or the mother was right there and you just didnt see it.As they get bigger the mother will let them get a little further away but not too far.I had another bear in my yard three days ago it attacked my bird feeder again. At least this time it didnt break it,just bent the pole over.

I've seen pairs of small and big tracks together so I'm hoping that the mother is alright. She might have been up over the ledge where I couldn't see her. There is a corn field about a 1/2 mile from my house where the black bear come together to eat. There have been as many as 5 bear in the field at one time (a couple years ago). That year there were a couple killed the first day of bear season and one was over 500lb.

Want to bear watch? Just put out a couple dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts and pick a safe viewing spot nearby (a deer strand is good) and wait, They will come!.........GT
