The Timber Games
#1
Greetings,
This is a bit off topic, but did anyone see the Stihl Timber Games (I could have that title slightly wrong) this weekend? They had a modified super chain saw event where these guys used huge saws running on exotic racing fuels.
The tie-in to ATVs (I knew you were looking for one) is the mufflers on these things -- they looked like ATV aftermarket muffles. They were shaped alot like a "fatty" style muffler and hung out a good two or three feet to the rear. Did any of you see this and identify these as ATV parts? Just idle curiosity.

i thought they looked liked dirt bike pipe's that had been modifed to work better on those little screamer's . are you thinking of building one to finish clearing your land i think your brush hog would work better. glad to see someone put a post in this subject they are three of my favorite thing's in life.

Greetings,
I agree, brush hog is the way to go. I suspect those saws have very limited utility in real world applications.
And as for my brush hog (flail mower), I managed to flip it a week ago. I bolt came out of the brace that levels the mower deck so it dropped down, the front lip caught the ground and over it came. It wasn't scary but seeing those whirling blades rise up behind you is definitely cause for concern. So along with replaceing the bolts with cotter pins (the vibration makes a number of the bolts chronic problems) we got serious about adding bigger tires. My neighbor made customer axles on his lathe and we put 18" go cart tires on it (replacing the 12" original equipment tires). This week we are welding a ball type hitch on it eliminating a problematic bolt-on hitch. I think at that point we'll have it just about perfect. At any rate, it really zooms through the grass and weeds -- mowing at 6 mph, you can cover a field in a hurry.
