I was just wondering what you guys owned as in the animals department. I am 15 will be 16 in august and I am in local 4-H clubs in the beef, and swine. I have a Main/Angus Cross steer to show which I like alot he is very nice, and my hampshire pigs to show a barrow and a gilt, the barrow is the good one. We also have 3 cows which 1 has a calf and 1 horse. Oh yea cant forget about dads dog its a 7 month old Austrialan Sheppard.

Have a few cows, we dont raise our calfs so they arent on the dairy, have 2 betas (fish), a English bulldog, and a wild cat we caught on the dairy. I was in 4-H when I was younger but I took sewing and cooking classes, I let my sister chase a pig around

Congatulations on taking on the responsibility of raising some livestock. 4-H is a great orginization and you will learn a lot about animal husbandry while a member.
I was in 4-H many years ago and all of our kids also participated. Over the years we have raised and shown cattle, horses, sheep, rabbits, chickens and one goat. Since we have a farm and raise cattle all the time it was easy to make room for the few extra 4-H project critters. We now have grandchildren on the farm and when they get a little older they will probably also get involved in 4-H.
If your school system offers it you may want to consider getting involved in FFA, Future Farmers of America, as you get older. This is another orginization that teaches proper animal and land management. Lots of fun and very educational for anyone rather they are going into farming or not.
If you have the opportunity be sure to attend some of the State and National events that each of these groups have each year, you will meet a lot of nice people and make friends that will last a lifetime.
Enjoy yourself and take good care of your charges.

I was in 4-H for horses. While growing up I had just about every farm animal as pets. (horses, cows, dogs, cats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and so on...) At least I thought some of them were pets. Now I only have dogs.

hey cody you are lucky when i was your age i wanted to be in 4-H but we were always so busy on the farm with everything else we only have about 800 acres of farmland and have 50 cows 51 calves 2 bulls 2 steers about 7 farm cats and a dog (peppy) we used to have a bunch of horses but they became pets more then anything and used to have geese and turkeys but good luck with 4-H and take FFA if it is offered my school didn't offer it so i couldn't take it (I was a deprived child)

I own around 60 cows and heifers myself, we milk around 375 on our dairy with around 350 youngstock. We got 310 acres and 80 acres rented. Keeps me plenty busy.
