CETME .308
#2
I'm not familiar with the CETME .308 but it sounds like you have a rifle with a multileaf rear site. These are generally set up with hinged leafs of different heights which can be raised into position to allow using the same "hold" in relation to the front site when shooting at different ranges.
Once a load has been "registered", that is it has been determined at what range the bullet shoots to point of aim for each leaf, it can be helpful when shooting at long range.
Never really cared for this type of site myself but that's just a personal preferance.

It is the grandfather to the H&K 91, very reliable rifle, believe it originated in Italy but don't quote me. Many of the parts are interchangable to the 91. Used a lot by european armies from the 1970's to today. I have both a H&K 91 and clone model. Check TAPCO online for cheap 20 round mags I paid $3 per mag a year ago.

Actually, I believe the CETME originated in WW2 Germany as the MP44. Spain picked up the design postwar (as they did on quite a few German designs - ME109, HE111, DO26 aircraft) and H&K purchased design rights from CETME in the 70's.
The MP44 design was also copied by a tank mechanic by the name of Kalashnikov...

I like it, I thought it would have a heavy recoil to it but its more or less of a slow recoil , I did order mine through SOG and was very suprised what type of shape it was in "just like new". I also got one with the muzzel brake. I picked up 700rds of ammo also Argintine(sp?) .308 works great no jams.
I will be putting a scope on it as soon as I can find a mount cheap enough, $70-$80 for one right now
