Skin Your Deer Fast with your ATV
#1
I tried this last year and skinned 14 deer using my winch. Help helped by driving my ATV. After the other hunters saw how fast I skinned my two bucks that wanted me to help them do theirs.
Works best with the head of the deer on top. I cut around the legs and neck. Remove legs just below the knee as normal. Skin a little down the neck just enough to get a lemon size rock around the skin. Hook your winch cable around the rock inside the skin. Put your ATV in reverse and back up. It is super fast.
Good luck to you guys this year. My group has opening week at a small ranch in Blanco Texas. The heart of Texas hillcountry. I hope to get a good northern in the next couple of weeks to throw me into full rut.
Aim small mis small!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I picked them at a army surplus in Inrving Texas while there on business. I like the ones that had 50cal ammo in it. I saw some the other day at the new northern tool on 290 but you will find a better supply at a army surplus. I have not seen that guy on 249 where berts dirt works use to be in a long time.

Sorry to hijack your skinning thread, but I was wondering how you like the mosse lift, and do you have any more picks of it you could email me?

That is an excellant way to skin deer, but only if they are still warm. My relitives have been doing that in Nevada for many years, only they tie the rope to their trucks. If they get too cold, sometimes the meat will stick to the hide and you will rip a big chunk of it off. Make sure the deer is tied to something solid.

Yes you are right about trying to skin a frozen deer. I never thought about you guys up north only have a few hour opportuity before your kill freezes up in most cases. Down here in texas we have to hurry up and get quartered and in a ice chest before the flies come. It is still in the high 80's when season starts.

I'll take the cold over the heat any day. You have a lot more leaway to work on em. Of course working on almost frozen meat makes it easier to cut, but it's a little tough on the fingers. Sometimes there is a little more blood than you think there should be so you have to stop and count fingers. A little bit of J D helps warm the numb.

let me say this, its really really really hard on the fingers. it gets to the point that you think maybe next time i will have the butcher do it. but year after year i keep doing it. i just got a meat gringer last year that i hooked up to a 110V motor. i had so much fun grinding meat i damn near did the whole deer.
ive seen a kit, with rope, little ball and something else that you could buy. but most of us have something laying around that would work.

I just pull the skin off, If it hangs up a couple quick swipes with my skinning knife and the skin will continue to pull off, not that big of a deal really to bother hooking up to a truck or atv.
I really like what you've done to your racks on that Bigbear with the moose lift, I plan on doing the same with my Grizz but havn't gotten around to do it yet, I was going to put out door carpet on it (they make dark grey and black I think) I really like the boat hooks you've put on there too, food for thought, for me anyways..
