Biggest I've seen is the 200gr as well. Minimum caliber is sometimes set by the state laws. Around here we can use any centerfire cartridge including the .17 centerfire, but we cant use buckshot. I wouldn't use anything less than the .243, but my son took a nice buck with the .223 last year. My boss has killed deer with his .17 centerfire. Chit I've killed em with .22 magnums, but like I said check into your local laws concerning this.

I don't know about Wisconsin, but Minnesota and North Dakota must use a .22 centerfire or larger.
Smallest I would use is a .308, my dad shot a doe in the heart with a .243 and it ran darn near 200 yards before dieing. Too long for me to track and drag out!

i guess you could kill anything with any bullet, it just takes the right placement, but i'll have to check the laws, using a .17 caliber to kill a deer, thats rediculous, thats as small as they get, any smaller and your lookin a pelet gun!

30-06 loads are available up to at least a 220 grain weight. As for smallest caliber to use for taking deer......I have taken several with my .22-250cal rifle without any issue. Bullet placement is everything. A simple .22 cal rimfire will take down a deer if shot placement is correct. I use mainly a 150 grain load for deer, you don't need anything heavier in the .30-06 cal.

i don't see anything bigger than 180 grain in 30-06 in fleet farm do i have to go to gander mountain or bass pro or cabelas to get the bigger grain? i don't need it, it is probably another brand like remington has core lokt, and A-frame which is bigger grains, usually.

lets say my remington model 700 chambered for 300 remington ultra magnum, can it hold winchester ammunition or just remington? along with that, if its a ultra magnum, i have to get the ultra mag ammo? right? i can use any grain size for my cailber tho from 180-220 right? i have used 180 so far, i really don't need to go bigger because this will take a bear and drop it on its a@@ even if i shot it through the chest bone.

I own a 300 Rem Ultra Mag. It can only take 300 Rem Ultra Mag ammo. With hot handloads, mine throws a 180 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet at 3500 fps. For comparison, a 30-06 will throw a 180 grain bullet about 2800 fps.
