Default Springfield scopes

Anyone using a Springfield Amory scope? Do you like it? Is it worth the $$$ ?
I am looking at the 6-20x50 scope, but the $800+ is hard to deal with. The features I am looking for are:
1: 50mm
2: high power variable
3: Shock proof....using it on a .338 win mag (the wal-mart Tasco the first owner put on it, lost the cross hairs in 1 shot )
4: bullet-drop compensation...Springfield only has a blank ring I could dial in for myself, but I know some manufactures will make them for you if you give them your specs.

I want to play around with some long range shooting with hand loads (not too sure what yet)...I was thinking of the Hornady SST's But have never use them before.

I don't know much about them, so can't say good or bad. However I really love Leupolds. VARX-III would be great for you.

I have looked at them. Everything I read about them sounds GREAT, but I am like you...the price holds me back from getting one.

I've heard some good and some bad. I've always been a fan of Leupold. Now for reflex scopes and the like I go with EOtech and Trijicon but for regular telescopic sights I don't think you can go wrong with Leupold.

Do not scrimp on optics especially when you get up into higher recoiling rifles. A 39 dollar tasco might work fine for your .22 plinker but when you try to use it on 300 mag they just can't take it. Trying to sight in a rifle when your bargain scope is changing point of aim every shot is a good way to burn thrhougha ton of ammo, bruise your shoulder horribly and more or less drive you insane.

I agree not to skimp on the optics, but I havent spent that much on any scope. I paid $400 for a Bausch and Lomb Elite 4200 several yrs ago. Great scope. I have dropped it out of a deer stand(long story) 20 ft high. Barrel stuck in dirt. Scope didnt move one bit!!!
