We ride in the fields all the time during harvest . We have corn and beans around here. In corn stubble I try to ride where the combine or auger wagon have smashed the row or the corn is bent in the direction you are going. I don't want to take a chance on putting a hole in the oil cooler. I didn't think canada had a long enough growing season for corn. We plant 100 to 110 day corn and have been getting over 200bu. this year. But that is above average.

The answer to your question is that if the owner thinks that it does damage, then it does. Not necesarily real crop damage, but rather damage to our sport. Please, ride only with permission and respect the owners position.

I was worried like the corn stalks could hit the cv boots and tear them or something like that...and going over bean stubble just doesnt give a pleasent sound

Ride out 4 wheelers in the fields all the time. Never tore a boot or did any damage yet. When you are done, I would recommend you check underneath just in case a stalk is wedged somewhere. I kept hearing a strange rattling sound from the front of my Xplorer after riding thru a cornfield & it was a stalk wedged between the front A-arm & axle. Didn't hurt anything, but given enough time rubbing on the CV boot it could have.

PS our corn didn't do nearly as well. Irrigated was about average, Dryland was from 15 bu/acre at most, down to about 3/4 bu/acre. Dry as a bone here.

Greetings,

Checking underneath is a good idea for a couple of reasons. Along with the damage sticks and stalks can do, you can also generate a small but irksome fire by picking up some tall weeds along the way. I ride through some very tall weed fields and have twice plucked a few smoldering strands out from the engine.

As for tire damage, I managed to stick a very small stick through my tire once -- I would think it would be pretty easy to get a sharp corn stalk stuck (say that five times fast) into a tire at speed.
