Default Thompson center Omega muzzleloader

I have a Thompson center Omega .50 cal. muzzleloader and I am less than satisfied. It is my first muzzlerloader and has been plauged with problems. Right out of the box the rear sight was stripped and the dealer replaced it, after 4 shots the trigger broke ( one month to get fixed) and now when I went to sight it in I have to have the rear sight all the way to the left to hit the bullseye. I am shooting triple seven pellets and tried 2 50 grain pellets , three fifty grain pellets and three different bullets ( mag express 300 grain, mag express 240 grain and shockwave 300 grain) all with the same results. I thought maybe I was snapping the trigger so I shot left handed with the same results. Any ideas from anyone ?? I am calling Thompsons tomorrow to see what they say.

Wow...sorry to hear that. I have an Encore and really like it. It does not like 150 grains of powder though. Anything over a 100 and it shoots erratic. I have looked at getting a Omega for my son, but might reconsider if they are having porblems. I would think that T/C would take care of you. Good luck and post some results please!

Thanks for the reply. I talked with Thompsons gunsmith this morning and he said to send him the whole rifle. He said either the rear sight isn't aligned on the barrel properly (which he will repair) or there is a problem with the barrel and they will replace the rifle. I told him I am booked for a bear hunt on Sept. 1st and he said he would have my rifle back to me in plenty of time for the hunt. If they get it back to me in time I will be impressed. They are very nice and seem to stand behind there product and between that and all the good things I have heard about Thomspon/Center Arms I think mine is a fluke. It seems no matter what I buy it is always the exception to all the rules and reviews. I will be dissappointed if I don't get to use it for bear hunting, but I am pleased they are standing behind their product.

You aren't the only one having trouble with the Omega. A guy I know that swears by his TC firearms has had serious problems with his Omega. It had some sort of problem with the breechplug, had serious fouling problems and some sort of broken part in the trigger group. I don't remember the particulars. I personally observed some of the accuracy problems he was having. Having shot it myself a few times I think it was more trigger related than anything. The trigger was just atrocious.

I'll say this for TC, they were VERY responsive to his concerns and problems which several times resulted in the tech who was working on it calling him and consulting him on the problems and his thoughts on them. I haven't shot it since he got it back but he said it shoots much better since the trigger was worked on but it still fouls badly. Everything was taken care of under warranty as far as I know.

I sure hope I don't have any more problems with it. Even if they stand behind it I don't want to keep sending it in. I shot it more than 50 times on Sunday with only swabbing the barrel and have had no trouble at all with fouling. I am shooting triple seven pellets and the breecch plug had some crud in it but not much. I made sure when I got home I cleaned it real well so we'll see what happens.
