Red if i was you i would try 100 grain 777 that what work the best in my omega. Trust me if you use pyrodex this year and next year you use 777 you will half to resight your gun. It might cost more for 777 but it is worth every penny. And 150 grains will kick just a little more then 100 grain. It will kick like a single shot 20 gauge

Hey okiedude, if you could let me know how that experiment goes and note how much more recoil there is, I would be even more appreciative than I already am now with your help. I'd love to have true 200+ yard accuracy, but don't want to blow my shoulder out of place in order to achieve it, ya know? Thanks!

You bet...no problem. Thats what this place is for I dont think you will have a problem with recoil. Not to sound ignorant, but the recoil on a smokepole is different that a rifle. You will really enjoy muzzleloader season. Between rifle and muzzleloader season...I will pick the smokepole anytime. Dont be intimidated by it....you will have a blast. Oh...btw...my buddies say that I am **** when it comes to certain things...cleaning my muzzleloader is one of them. DONT NOT SKIMP ON CLEANING IT AFTER A DAY OF SHOOTING IT. I try to field clean it the best I can, then later that nite....I let the patches fly...lol...cya

Maybe one day we can trade an Oklahoma hunt for a Illinois hunt.....just kiddin....that wouldnt be a fair trade....lol...I would owe you a alot more...

Oh, that's not nearly as bad as I envisioned. Single-shot 20-gauge, huh? What's that compared to a 20-gauge pump?

So okie, how did the 150-grain shooting go for you? Was the recoil noticeable enough to maybe be considered a nuisance? Did it flatten out your shooting?

Yeah, got it. Thanks. I just installed a scope and sling on the Omega tonight and hope to shoot soon, but it just seems like I can't find the time. I'll experiment with powder amounts though.

I shoot my Omega with 100 grains of 777 and a 300 grain XTP mag bullet and it shoots well out to 100 yards. as far as beyond that they recomend 150 grains of powder and in my Omega there is a substantial difference in recoil with 150 grains. I have found some reoil tables that were measured with a heavier gun and the muzzleloader with 100 grains was comparable to a 20 ga with slugs and with 150 grains it was beyond the recoil of a .375 H&H magnum rifle. With 150 grains of pyrodex and a 400 grain bullet it was at a .416 magnum which is close to 60 lbs of recoil. a 30-06 has 17-20 lbs.
