i have a 7.62x54 i use for deer, a 12 guage i use for squirrel, and with a choke could be used for turkey, and i think my brother uses a 20 guage for cyote, but i am not completely sure. i'm not sure what else to tell you.... good luck with whatever you get.

I have a Remington 7600 Game Master pump 30-06 I use for Deer. It is a great gun. I also use a Winchester 1300 Pump 12 ga for skeet, pheasent, turkey, and anything else you need a shotgun for. It comes with a full, modified and improved cylinder chokes. This makes it nice, you can swap a choke very easily. I also bought turkey taker sights and a Carlson extended and Ported Turkey choke. This combination has a deadly pattern for turkey. I would expecially reccomend the shotgun, because it is priced very reasonably, and can be used for anything. Good luck with your choice!

I've been considering a new deer rifle myself. But after taking a look at my checkbook balance, I have decided that it isn't going to happen this year. But if I were to get a new rifle, I think it would be a Remington Model Seven in 7mm-08. It isn't the cheapest gun, nor is it the most expensive, but it sure seems reasonably priced. The 7mm-08 seems like a great round - great performance with fairly light recoil. Also worth a look is the 260 Rem. - just about identical performance to the 7mm-08.

For a shotgun I'd go with a Remington 870 (or 870 express). It is a time-tested and proven, reliable gun.

I might sound like a real "Remington only" fan, but I'm not. Winchester Model 70's are great guns, just a bit more expensive. Ruger, Weatherby, Savage, and others... they all make good and great guns.

I think my next deer rifle is going to be a Savage for one reason - their AccuTrigger. I spent some time recently in a couple of gun stores trying out new rifles. I tried remingtons (of which I am partial) winchesters, brownings, a couple of weatherby's, a kimber, a sako and even a steyr. The triggers on all of them were crap including the steyr and sako. Heavy, creepy nasty triggers that would require a trigger job before you could even shoot the thing accurately. The browning was particularly horrid. The Savage AccuTrigger you can safely adjust your self from 2.5 to 6 pounds and on the ones I have tried are a huge improvement over the standard lawyer mandated trigger you get on American rifles these days.

It is pretty difficult to beat a 30-06 when it comes to all around versatility.

I personally like the Remington triggers along with the Savage Accutrigger. Its a really good idea and its crisp. My M700 270 has a really good trigger, its prolly bout 5 lbs, but really crisp with no creep, wich works good for a deer rifle. I have a model 7 222 that I bought used, and I think it has had a trigger job. Its about 3lbs with no creep what so ever.

I'm not a big Browning Rifle (I have Browning pistols and shotguns) fan, and I dont care for Winchesters at all. My dad had a M70 264 winmag. It had a trigger job and the action squared, but I still didnt like it much, plus it kicked like a pissed off mule.

Tika's have really good factory triggers, and are reasonably priced.

If you want to hunt deer and turkey and only buy one gun, go with the Encore. 7-08 is a great choice for deer with little recoil, and you can but a 12 ga barrel on for turkey season.

I hunted deer for a long time with my old Springfield 03/A3, until the value went sky high on them. Remington 700 in .308 Win now. Also have a Weatherby Vanguard in .300 WBY Magnum. A bit too powerful for deer, it went on a moose hunt a few years ago.

Turkey? My favorite... just traded an old Big Bear for a new in box Browning Gold auto 12 gauge. Sweet shooter. Three chokes came with the 26" barrel, and I'm thinking about a sporting clays barrel. My first experience with 3 1/2" magnum shells with 2 oz turkey loads. The recoil was... brutal. Going to take some getting used to - even my Weatherby doesn't kick that hard.

There are a lot of wonderful guns out there. You need to first decide the price range, and then decide what else is important to you. I once saw a used shotgun going for a measley $120,000. No, that's not a typo. What will the gun be used for? How long do you plan to keep it? Is it important to you to have a gun that will not only keep it value, but possible increase in value over the years? Or will a cheap knock-off that will give you years of service before it's ready for the trash bin be acceptable? Is it important to you to buy an American made product, or will you buy an import? 7mm-08 is great for hunting but why is that important to you? Would another caliber be acceptable? The 30-06, .243, and the .308 are also great for hunting, to name just a few.
Most gun manufacturers have web sites, I would research all of them.

Have you considered a handi rifle by H & R? Might be a good choice for you since you want one gun to do multiple game. Check their website, but I'm pretty sure the handi rifle is the one you can get various barrels/calibers for. My buddy has one with a 243 barrel, rifled 20 gauge barrel, and a 50 cal muzzleloader.
