Default ANY ONE EVER HAVE A GUN GO OFF BY ITSELF!?

I have a 700 ADL chambered in 30-06. I also have to release the safety to open the bolt. The one trick my brother taught me was when I unload the rifle is to first of all obviously make sure it's pointed in a safe direction, but only release the safety long enough to open the bolt then return it to safety. Now everyone is wondering........ok that's good to get the first bullet out but what about the rest??????? Well here's the trick......After the first bullet is ejected, only push the bolt forward enough just to release the next bullet from the mag but not enough to chamber it....Once it's released from the mag just tip the rifle to the side and the bullet will just fall right out......And you never have to worry about running all the bullets through the chamber to eject them........This way the safety is only off for a split second and is a MUCH safer way to unload the weapon.....Just thought I'd share that with you guys....Hope it helps someone.....

....the sear on the trigger was the culprit on his rifle....set too lite.....that is why I shoot a model 70 WINCHESTER....Claw foot extractor(for positive ejection) and three position safety, which allows the shooter to unload his rifle with out taking the gun off safe....I think Ruger has that on their model77.....[/quote]

On Model 700's made after the early 90's, you can work the bolt w/o disengaging the safety. I also have a model 7 made in the mid 80's, and you dont have to take it off safe to work the bolt.

To captain quint, Remingtons have as good a trigger as made on a factory rifle. I have several Remington rifles(model 700 and 7's) and have never seen a Remington with a sloppy trigger. Thats just my experiance.

Amen brother on the Winchester Model 70! Best extractor design in my mind! I shoot the Classic Stainless feather-weight in .30-06 and I would not be with anything else in the woods.

csr44,
That was another guys quote. He was the one saying he shoots a Model 70. I shoot Remingtons.
I'm not knockin the Winchester, I just prefer the Model 700 Rem. I just wanted to clear that up.

No. Have many guns: singles, levers, pumps, autos, and bolts. Never had that happen without touching the trigger.

remingtons with a light trigger under 4 pounds is dangerous, there have been numerous cases of this happening. being 20 years old doesn't help much either. take it to a gunsmith, explain to him what happened, he'll probably set the trigger a little heavier. idon't know much about atvs, but i know alot about rifles. i shoot an abolt myself

a guy in our hunting ground had a 300 magnum browning and he pulled up his gun to shoot a deer clicked the safety off and BAM it just went off. apparently something to do with the bolt or firing pin broke and failed. luckily nobody was hurt and i haven't had any problems with my remingtons or savages but i have seen alot of brownings not wanting to fire they seem to be alot more picky.

well to all who read this. he or i would never trusted this gun again as i stated in first post he took it to gunsmith and had a new trigger assy installed with adjustable trigger pull so far so good but he is more careful as to where he points it when working the action!!! thanks to all

Treat 'em all like they're loaded and everything'll be alright.
