MN deer opener (rifle)

Man I'm getting pumped. I can't wait. Hoping for any deer but, I really want the trophy buck on my wall. I'm sure the Rubicon is up to the task of bringing a record breaking deer out of the woods.
The weather this opener is supposed to be warm. A little too warm I'm afraid. 45 to 50 degrees and Partly sunny. How can you possibly cool down a deer fast when it's this warm?

You sound new to deer hunting. The best way to eventually get that big buck on the wall is to pass up the smaller basket rack bucks. Most people can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk. They lose it when they see any size antlers. To cool deer down in warm weather, get them field dressed asap then pack the body cavity with blocks (not bagged cubes) of ice. Pick up the blocks prior to the hunt and pack them tight in a cooler. They'll keep for days. Good luck!

Although I'm fairly new, I'm not too new... This is my 7th year now and I get more excited every year. I see deer every year but don't always get an antlerless permit either.
As for waiting on the big ones... It's really not an option for me. I can only hunt 1 weekend a year and I really rely on the meat "ANY" deer provides. Although I hunt with 5 other people we share the meat and 1, 2 or 3 deer doesn't always supply enough food for 20 people for a year.
I take what I can get and I'm happy with that. I'm also happy just to have the right to hunt. I just want something with antlers this year.

Good luck to you guys!
In my camp next to the fire this year, I wish for something beautiful, horny, fat and grunts...
And I'm not talking about my wif...girlfriend either. I'm talking about that trophy buck and fat wild sow that is out there waiting for the Nov. 11 showdown in FL!
The 25 lb. gobbler will have to wait til this spring when my 9 yr. old son can go too.
Go get 'em guys!

Well good luck hunting hiofcer! it really is weird how warm it is. I think it kind of messes up
hunting some what. I will stay out of the woods during your rifle deer season. I guess it means I will not be riding my atv for a few weeks.

Gosh, I hope that isn't anything personal. There are a lot of jumpy people that hunt and will shoot a blaze orange deer. Fortunately, I'm not one of them. I look before making that ever so fatal shot.

Hiofcer,
A couple of things after field dress. Keep the body cavity wide open. Skin asap. Keep in the shade and wrap with a sleeping bag. The bag will insulate the body from heat. And remember, "where Bambi goes, nothing grows."
Best of Luck.

Just to let you all know… The great year the MN DNR was boasting was an absolute bust for me. Five people 50 acres and no deer. I still had a good time. Now we all have to by beef.
The party right next to us: 1 buck and 3 does.

You must be doing something wrong. Up here on my 200 acres the deer are as thick as flies. We've had 4 different parties come through and fill out. You still can't tell any deer are missing from the herd. I just hope we get a *real* winter this year, otherwise that herd population is really gonna explode. That will make huge problems for farmers, and the road kill will soar.
