Ginnis, I never knew you were such a poet. I especially like number 10.

Default Hunting! Please help!

Poem #11
Hunting is great
in so many different ways
I can sit and do nothing
For many hours or even days

My eyes are wide open
awaiting the giant buck
and hoping that today
I'll have such good luck

I'll sit high in a tree
or in a blind in the shape of a dome
But either way you look at it
I'll never get a deer while I'm writing this da*n poem

Default Hunting! Please help!

This thread reminds me of something -
You know your from Wisconsin if you know the lyrics to this song:

Turdy Point Buck - Bannanas at Large

(Background noise: sipping beer, chorus of laughs and belches, general yooper noises)

Lemmie tell ya what
and you know it's not so much the heat as it’s da gosh darn humidity
You know dat.

You know when you sit there in the bed and you're just sweaty you know and you go to reach for the water on the nightstand and ya slide right out of bed, and the wife says
(high voice) "Stop making so much noise you're waking me up, go to sleep"

Well lemme tell ya
Times like dat make me feel like movin up nort ya know
Good idea.
Yah i'd do it too.

‘Course then I couldn't watch the Packers ya know,
The Packers are- gosh I love da Packers, I'd do anything for da Packers.
Who can forget Vince Lombardi and the Glory Years.
Not me boy.

Well anyhow,
Its’gettin to be dat time a year eh?

Yeah, I'm a deer hunter how do ya do

I got da deer huntin rappin tale for you
I’m so excited, it's my favorite time a year
I love to freeze my buns chasin trophy deer
Don't clap your hands to da stompin o’ da feet
cause ya he's like me he can't- he can't keep a steady beat, no.

I got the great big knife cause the hunting is my life
It's my chance ta drink beer and get away from the wife!
It's a boys night out acting stupidly
Say now baby, hey baby, now don't you think that maybe how bout you and me yah?

Well we partied all night never made it to our bunks and
I was sittin in the tree stand on a three day drunk
Wind a’ blowin 45, temp turdy below, I was freezin to death, and den it started to snow
I climb down from the tree stand- start headin for da truck and dat was when I seen it dare, da turdy point buck!
Turdy point buck?
turdy point turdy point turdy point buck!

Well he was eight foot tall, weighed twelve thousand pounds, with every step there was a sh-sh-sh- sh-shakin' o’ da ground
He was so rutiful, so beautiful, strutted right outta my dreams, created by God just for outdoor magazines.

Now I'm not much for thinkin, no I don't do it often
but I had an idea -
To put dat turdy pointer right in his coffin.

Turdy point buck
Turdy point buck
Turdy point-turdy point-turdy point buck!

My hand grenades were in my other jacket, (Yeah right!)
The howitzer was in the shop
My stomach was tied into a monkey knot
My only hope was Betty Lou
She was da one
A combination AK-57 Uzzie-radar-laser-triple-barrel-double-scope heat-seeking shotgun
(Burrrp)

Turdy point buck
Turdy point buck
Turdy point turdy point turdy point buck!

Ya dat da women clappin' in da back dare I kinda like dat

Well he was comin right for me gettin bigger and bigger but my fingers were so f-frozen I could not pull the trigger!
So I kicked off my boot, fired with my big toe!
I was John Wayne, Dirty Harry, and G.I. Joe. (GI Joe?!)

Ya dat turdy point buck was only 10 feet away
but still I couldn't seem to hit him and he wouldn't run away
an after 20 minutes, when the smoke cleared
There were hunters on da ground and the world's biggest deer
was standing tall and proud, he looked at me and yawned (ohhhhhhh dear)
and then a flash of white, and there he was, gone!
[cryin and burpin]

Well seven men got up and then one fell down
a big lump o blaze orange, sh-shakin on da ground
At first I thought he was one a da boys
but it was that no-brudder-good-in-law o’ mine, from Illinois.

Only cheese-heads in here, right boys?
Send him back on the next plane ya know?

Did ya see da turdy pointer?
Did ya see da turdy pointer?
Did ya see da turdy pointer?
Did ya see da turdy pointer?

As we jumped into da truck
sayin I'm gonna get dat turdy point buck
yeah I'm gonna get dat turdy point buck
I'm gonna get dat turdy...point... buck

turdy point buck
turdy point buck
turdy point-turdy point-turdy point buck!
Huh-uh huh-uh huh-uh huh-uh turdy point buck Bananas at Large

The old sow died in the forks of the branch, the Jay birds whistled and the Buzzards danced! I was raised in the back woods, suckled by a bear, I have two sets of jaw teeth and four coats of hair! All down in dark dungeons I saw a bright light, all silk was the saddles all bright was the bows,I've said your name four times and you still don't know!

Oh the sad state of modern education these days but I'll save that rant for later.

You need a trip to building with all those books in it. They call it the Library. Kipling for instance wrote "The Fox Meditates" A.L. Gordon wrote "By Blood And Field".

While you're there pick up "Meditations On Hunting" by Jose Ortega Y Gassette. Probably the best book about hunting that most hunters have never read.

After all of that you probably should check out the following:
English Poetry I: Chaucer to Gray
English Poetry II: Collins to Fitzgerald
English Poetry III: Tennyson to Whitman

Not all at once of course. Actually I'd be genuinely shocked if a public school library would have those. Probably require a trip to the public library or even a college library.

I am currently homeschooled, so I didnt have access to a school library. Thanks for the info on the books though, next time I have to read one for english class I will make sure and check out some of those.

From a lil known Michigan poet.......... well ok hes just not know for poetry... in fact im not sure this is poetry LOL .... but if you want hunting related 'poetry'... Ted gets my vote !

Fred Bear

There I was back in the wild again.
I felt right at home, where I be-long.
I had the feeling, coming over me again.
Just like it happened so many times be-fore. eh.
The Spirit of the Woods is like an old good friend.
Makes me feel warm and good in-side.
I knew his name and it was good to see him again.
Cause in the wind he's still a-live.
Oh Fred Bear
Walk with me down the trails again.
Take me back, back where I be-long.
Fred Bear
I'm glad to have you at my side my friend
and I'll join you in the big hunt before too long
before too long.
It was kinda dark, another misty dusk
it came from a tangle down be-low.
I tried to re-mem-ber everything you taught me so well.
I had to de-cide which way to go.
Was I a-lone or in a hunter's dream.
Cause the moment of truth was here and now.
I felt his touch I felt his guiding hand.
The buck was mine forever more!!
Oh Fred Bear
Walk with me down the trails again.
Take me back, back where I be-long.
Fred Bear
I'm glad to have you at my side my friend
and I'll join you in the big hunt before too long
before too long.
We're not alone when we're in the great outdoors
We got his spirit We got his soul
He will guide our steps and our arrows home
The restless spirit still roams
Oh Fred Bear
Walk with me down the trails again.
Take me back, back where I be-long.
Fred Bear
I'm glad to have you at my side my friend
and I'll join you in the big hunt before too long
before too long.
