If you have access to a public library slowly work your way through "The Harvard Classics" (you can find the book list on line) which put you ahead of 95% of public school students and expose you to some of the best literature ever written.
On hunting you might want to check out "The Man Eaters of Tsavo" Lieut.-Col. J. H. Patterson All about lion hunting and such. I think you can read the entire thing on-line if that is more your bag:
