Default Plowing with synthetic..

Just wondering what set ups you guys are using as far as winching the plow, Synthetic? Steel? Strap? I put a new 50' section of Amsteel on last year but didn't work too well, I guess they have a shorter piece made for plowing....On the 50' piece, the outer row on the spool actually gets drawn into the center of the spool...Kinda crushed in there.....Any ideas would be appreciated.

There are 2 ways you can go, the cheapest and easiest you mentioned, a short piece of cable for the plow, but then you are left without the use of your winch for the winter, as long as you are plowing. They do make small electric motors to lift the plow, it mounts right on the plow, and runs a short cable up to your bumper to lift the plow, that way your winch is free for other uses, but you are looking at about 180 bucks for that set up, I think, I could be wrong on the price.

Default Plowing with synthetic..

I started with the full length steel cable. When it was all used up from breaking I just started using short lenghts of steel cable but found it was wearing a groove into my drum. As the cable tightened up and loosened on the drum it wore the groove into the drum. I changed to strap but just didn't care for it, it had a high pib factor so I changed to synthetic rope. I didn't get any better life out of the rope than I did the steel cable but at least it didn't wear on the drum. Eventually I figured out how to connect the rope to the drum so I had two lines running to the plow and that worked well. Later I even figured out how to run four lines from the drum to the plow and that works great. Haven't broken a rope since I went to the four lines.
