Default New Gander Mountain

I went to the new Gander Mountain that opened in my area. I was so disapointed in what I found. Some of the prices were just outragious. They wanted $37.00 for a box of plain 180 grain 300 WinMag ammo. It was not accubond or anything fancy, just plain Winchester ammo, that sells at other places for about 19.00 a box. This is only one example of their high prices. Dont get me wrong, they had a few good deals, but more high prices than anything. I paid 34.99 for a half dozen of Gold Tip carbon arrows. Another thing that suprises me about the prices is the fact they are next door to a Wal Mart. So if you go, watch what you are paying for some items. I hope that since the store is new, they might get the prices right later on.

I was in the Minneapolis area a week ago and went to the Gander there. I noticed some prices I thought to be high although I did find a few bargains too. The next day I hit a nearby Cabelas and was glad I waited to buy some stuff. Cabelas was cheaper.

Gander mountain is nice for some stuff. I have found a few real good deals there, you just have to look around and be there at the right time to find a good deal. ....lucky for me its only 2 miles from the college campus I currently live at. So I check their sales pretty often.

Gander Mt used to have a catalog but they got out of that several years ago. I heard they sold catalog rights to Cabelas when they were getting started. This according to a friend who was told that by an employee of GM.

Funny GM doesn't have Internet sales either. That is a huge part of Cabelas and Bass Pro sales. I think they are missing out but maybe they are as big as they want to be.

Yes, I agree about the internet sales. They are missing out on a ton of business. Like you said though, they may be as big as they want to be.

Personally, I like Cabelas best. They have a great selection and their Cabelas brand of gear and clothing is better quality than Red Head (Bass Pro). Unfortunately, I live close to Bass Pro HQ in Springfield, MO. so they are the big dog in this area. The closest Cabelas is in Kansas City about 3 hours away. If they would build near Springfield, they would get most of my business. And a lot of my hunting buddies agree. Bass Pro has some really great sales and good deals but the politics of being a big industry and tourist draw in a town can cause some negative impact too.

Well, just to give everyone an update. The arrows I bought, I got home and they were too long. I took them back to the store, with no sales reciept, and only on the box they came in. I told the service desk they cut the arrows wrong and I needed to see if they could be exhanged. It turned out that I had given the guy the wrong measurement. I did not know I need to measure from the notch of the knock, so my arrows were too long that I bought. Well they not only showed me how to get them measured right, they also recut them and put new inserts in them. It was nice that they did that, because it was my fault that they were wrong. It looks like they are at least going to have decent to good service. I just wish they would carry something larger than a size 13 or 14 boot. It kills me that they build in a state that has over 1 billion dollars a year in hunting revenue, and is also one of the largest body size per capita of any state, but they do not carry large sizes for everyone. At least I can order out of Cabella's with no problem. At least they have a good big and tall line in most items.

Ditto.....Cabelas has THE VERY BEST customer service I have ever seen. They have taken stuff back from me that was over 7 months old. They are always very helpful. I have a Bass Pro shop 30 mins from me, but I try to order out of Cableas catalog.
