Sure wish they'd get rid of centerfire rifles for deer in KY - that's where all the accidents come from. Someone missing, and hitting a person 1/2 mile away. If you can't take a deer with a slug, you're not a hunter.
For turkey, Browning Gold Hunter in 3 1/2". Sweet handling, I just love it. Traded a beat up old Big Bear for it a couple of years ago, and I definitely got the best end of that deal.
I can shoot 2 3/4" birdshot in that gun all day, it really soaks up the recoil. But put a 2 oz turkey load in it, and dang those suckers smart when they go off.

Do you have any statistics on how many accidents have happened in the last 10 years in KY?

Remington 870 Super Mag 23" Fully Rifled Cantilever Barrel with a 2-7x32 Nikon ProStaff Scope </end quote></div>
When I hunted in Iowa I used a fully rifled cantilevered barrel on my 1187. It was surprisingly accurate. It grouped acceptably out to 150 and I could hit with it out to 200. Especially at the 100 yard or so range sabot slugs would really smack the tar out of a deer. When you went to gut one it was a real horror show inside. Very lethal.
On the other hand when I used regular slugs from a smooth bore you were doing well to hit a deer at 50 yards. I never took shots any further than that shooting regular slugs from a smooth bore gun. Those old fashioned slugs shot out of regular hunting guns wound a lot of deer.
