I'm surprised no one has said to get a Can-Am, Honda, Yamaha, etc. instead. Yet.
A camouflage 2009 Sportsman XP EFI with Electronic Power Steering would be a good start. It takes a few seconds to slap on a Lock & Ride gun boot and and it's ready to go. http://www.polarisindustries.c...PS/Pages/features.aspx

I was also thinking the X2. I have a 500 X2 and will be using it for hunting. I have a 2500 warn winch and can always buy a gun case to lock into the quad. It will work well for maintaining/planting food plots with the dump box and can be handy for riding in with a buddy.

If I had private property I could do whatever I want but unless the law has changed, in MI the only way I can legally use an ATV for hunting on public land is to shoot a deer or bear then use the ATV to bring it back to the nearest road or trail at 5 mph. The only vehicles I can legally have on the trail are a maximum of 50" wide. That means no Rangers except the RZR with stock width tires and wheels on it. Firearms also have to be transported out of reach of the driver, like in the trunk of a car. I don't know what you're supposed to do on an ATV. Every state has their own stupid laws and people need to know what they are before they go out and get arrested.

A polaris with a smaller engine would be good
I have a polaris magnum 330 4x4
it gets around trees and tight trails better
its light, easy to drive, still goes through anything you really need to when hunting, reliable, and the low gear is perfect. Its like a mini skidder!
but you probably want sumthin faster
here are sum videos
making my own trail
water crossin with no water in air box at all

I seen the now 6x6 on the Polaris website. That looks to be a beast. First thing I thought was put a set of those rubber band type tracks on the rear set of tires and make a little half track. Sorta like the half tank half motorcycle hybrid the Germans made in WW2 - The Kettenkrad. bet it would be a killer mud machine.
