Your going to have to have some buddy come in with a tractor to break that first, with a plow or disk and at least 100 hp...ish

40 years on neglect that will be like breaking new sod, once its broke then u could get away with some type of atv set up.

or maybe a large rotor tiller for the first breaking?

what kind of ground we talking about, crappy prairie with 3 inch topsoil, sand or something with several feet of top soil..

I have both tractors and utility quads. for what you want to do, initially I would rent or have someone come in and do the major brushing with a tractor. I have a 50hp Jd that will take on most projects. Heavy brush hogging and clearing is not a problem with this size rig. Then for keeping it knocked down use the quad.
You will be way ahead in the finance department and still have the quad for hunting instead of in the shop for frame and tranny repairs.
I built a trailer that will haul an atv size sprayer, has a dump mechanisn and converts to a logging arch. So far it has been a great tool around the farm for light work. If I think it is going to be a grunt for the quad, I get the big iron out.

I have pics, but can't seem to download them here.

Thank you Sidewinder. Is fun to build and use something that works well.
