Spraying Trails?
#1
Hello,
Some good info on here. I have cut 7foot wide trails through the woods and this year they are all covered with tall ferns and other green crap. It grows very fast so cutting will not be an option. I was wondering if spraying with Round-Up and then cutting the trails down after the plants are dead is a good idea??? Will the spray affect my hunting as I use these trails for grouse and deer hunting? I dont want the deer to smell the round up and stay away from the trails because I dont have clear cuts and use the trails to see the deer from the bow stand. Thanks!

If you spray now it won't leave any smell by the time hunting season comes around. I recommend Ortho Wood B Gone. It's effective on even poison ivy vines and other woody weeds. Spray the leaves and they'll start to shrivel within a day. There is a new Roundup that may work faster.

Thanks for the reply. The round up we have is what we spray in the crop fields and around the place now. Does the Ortho come in a 3-5 gallon jug? These trails we made were on original game trails, I would think the animals should still use the trail even if the food is dead right?

The animals use my ATV trails as much as they use their own. It's easier that walking through the underbrush so that's what they use.
Roundup shouldn't hurt anything. It will break down to nothing in a few days.
By the way, if you buy generic glyphosate you can save a good chunk of change over name brand roundup.

When you spray them, wait till all plants are dead before you mow. This will allow you to make sure the plants have metabolized the round up.
Good Luck

Yes, I have always used the generic stuff....Buckineer or somthing like that and 41% Glyphosphate. Sounds good guys, I will go ahead and spray them this weekend and see how well it works by next time up. I just dont want to spray any game licks...LOL...

well i sprayed the trails with glyphosphate and then went back in 2 weeks. The ferns looked like they were sprayed with miricle grow. Some of the smaller plants died but mabey a total kill of 15%. Put 1.5-2oz in per gallon and soaked all the leaves. I think now it is time to go with Garlon 4 or somthing like that. I always thought round up would kill anything it touchs, and i was worried about spray "drift"!lol
