Deer Rattling
#12
There are several key tricks to rattling:
1. Rattling is pretty ineffective unless done during the rut. Bucks are trying to fend off invaders, and as a result "charge" any intruders. Ratttling = a fight, which means there is an intruder.
2. Wind must be right, preferable none. Noise does not carry upwind well, so generally your rattling noise will get carried downwind, which means you can easily be scented. Rattling is best done on a quiet still day.
3. Method. Get a good tape or video. Buying some horns or acquiring a pair does not make you an expert...there is a method to this madness. I prefer to rattle with a companion; I rattle, he/she shoots. Deer come right up to you and it is often hard to drop your horns and pick up your preferred weapon.
If rattling is done right, and at the right time, it is HIGHLY effective. I have literally had bucks charge right up on me. Very cool to do.
Yes, season is still 3.5 months away, but me....I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
