Deer Rattling

ya I'm not very good at it so I stopped. If you rattle to hard you will scare the smaller bucks away and if you arn't a trophy hunter then that doesn't work to well. I use cover sents and lurrs in the earlier season I started putting minerals out a month ago to hepl the Buck develope better in hopes just to get one with three points on one horn instead of a spike (new law here in PA)

I use rattling along with grunt and doe bleat calls, so I can't say what really draws them in,I just know with a bow, they gotta be close !! Most of the bucks I shoot either come into the salt lick,or are trailing a doe that passed by,so they don't notice me.

My stepdad does and have had deer close on atleast 8 times. He also uses a grunt call so i think that helps alot. Though a couple years ago he forgot the antlers and shoot a big ten point so if your gonna see them your gonna see them and if not well then you go hungry.

i am big into hunting and if done correctly it will work. Last year 5 days into bow season i rattled/grunted a 12 pointer in and got him with a bow. You need to rattle hard enough for them to hear but not to hard or crazy b/c they will catch on. Works best with the big boys.

I would only rattle if you have the perfect setup where the buck cannot scent check you without being detected. For that reason it works best in the more open country like that in West Texas where you can see a deer appear from behind brush at 100 or more yards. In thicker cover, you're most likely to get busted by a wary old buck who knows better than to charge in foolishly. You might get lucky during the rut, but then we all know they don't get old being stupid.
In the pineywoods of East Texas where I hunt most often, I prefer to remain quiet with the element of surprise. You make the first move when you grunt, leaving it up to the buck to play off your hand. Most often the buck will win such battles.

Talking about deer hunting already?Rattling works sometimes,I prefer grunting only, although last year My son tried a decoy for the first time & had a nice 10 pt come charging in.One rattle & a couple of grunts he saw the decoy 2 min later he was on the ground.Give it a try just go real easy.Good Luck

For the past couple of seasons I have used the electronic deer call from Extreme Dimensions. It has worked great. It has 12 different calls on it, rattling, grunts, snorts just to name a few. And the best thing is, it is not a tape so you don't get any of that loud background noise. It also comes with 60' of wire so you can sit away from the speaker. I'm very pleased if you can't tell, and have 2 nice 8 points to show for it.
