I hav a AK-47 semi. 1400 rounds FMJ 3-30 round clips 2-20 rounds 3-5 rounds and 1-75 round drumm. The range is good up to 300 yds. I paid $260. for mine in 94. NEVER had one problem with it ever. I love it. Go to your next gun show you may find one there cheaper then one at the gun store.

It really depends on what you plan to do with it, if its just for plinking and rapid fire it is a good gun as with all military grade weapons, however they are made to create a varage of bullets in an area to supress troops, not really to be accurate. If you plan to use this gun hunting I would reccomend a bolt action rifle. For an all around gun for rapid fire and accuracy with inexpensive ammo the Ruger Mini 14 and Mini 30 are also good guns, you can get many aftermarket parts and clips for them. And they are made in USA.

Interesting, those of us that actually own and shoot them have no trouble with them at all after thousands of rounds. The only folks talking bad about them have a service to sell,ie.Fulton or SE,and they are hardly impartial on the subject in my opnion.I have NEVER seen a blown up POlytech M14 but I have seen a blownup Springfield Armory M1A.The trick is this, the POlytechs are military weapons made by the chinese to arm an insurgent action in the Phillipines(which never came to pass). They were made to mil-spec with long nato-length chambers which do not fair well with saami-spec. ammo which is loaded in thinner cases and to higher chamber pressures(nato chambers are almost 8 thousanths longer than saami .308 Winchester chambers). Our own USGI M14's have similarly long chambers. Anyways, the chicoms ground off the select-fire lugs and refinished many of them for export to the United States in the late 80's.I got mine!

Send one to Noah's Custom Rifles in mass to build a race gun with, he will laugh at you and send the gun back. Some were good alot were bad. the Strict double heat treating process was not done on a large number of guns. The soft ones will hold up for quite a while, to the average shooter. When I go to the range I plan on shooting... not plinking... Any of my M1-A's/ Select fire M-14's has digested countless cases of ammo, From FNM to Federal Gold label Match... My first was a poly, When I wanted to compete in HP matches I needed to update the weapon, NO REPUTABLE manufacturer of quality race guns ( who stands behind their product) would touch them with a 10 ft pole... So an early Smith Ent. forged rec gun became my weapon of choice. 12 years later I am a type 7 title II mfg. I design, build, and customize guns for fun...

Thanks for the input... Shoot safe, Shoot often

The HK-91 I had was as accurate as any bolt action gun I had and I used it for deer and coyote hunting at pretty long ranges. My ARs are pretty accurate too. Not as accurate as a heavy barreled bolt action varmint rifle but just as good as most other .223 rifles I have shot. I had a nice stainless Ruger Mini-14 for a while and while it was a good gun I just never developed a fondness for it. I have 4 Ruger 10/22s and a pair of Ruger pistols but never quite caught the mini-14/30 bug. I always was left with the impression that there were better choices at a lower price such as the AR-15 or AK series rifles.

I would agree that the AK and the ARs have prooven themselves over time, but as far as price, maybe im looking in the wrong place but they are way more expensive. I would love to find a deal on an AR. I have not shot the HK-91 yet, I would like to see a semi-auto that can shoot as accurate as a bolt action. I will shoot one and get back with you. Thanks for the imput.
